Sunday was warm and sunshiny...perfect for wandering. We went out toward Oak Grove with Mom, Dad, KimBeasht and Jacob. Dad brought his metal detector to do a little discovering. While driving down the road he spotted some old ruined buildings on the opposite side of this creek/canyon, so we parked and hiked over to check them out. We didn't find a whole lot of metal, but it was a fun walk anyway. 
When we were done there we rode up the road a bit to see the old kiln (a favorite party spot when Dad was a teenager). It was quite snowy, but we slid down the trail and went inside. Pretty cool. According to the signs on the trail, the kiln was used to make charcoal. What a dirty job that would have been. I wonder what kind of Black Lung or Mesothelioma-type disease those workers ended up with?
After the kiln we made our way past Leeds and down to the old ghost town, Babylon. We walked over to see some Indian writings on the cliff face. Dad told us that they were depicting a scene where the Indians were held captive at that spot. Men had blocked both ends of the steep pass, trapping them inside, probably for slave labor. The entire canyon had a very ominous feeling. Maybe it was the rock formations, or maybe because of its violent past? Even Autumn said that it was "like, really creepy". Anyway, it was a neat little ride and the end of a good day :)
